New Pathways to Teaching
NPTNJ is a partnership between New Jersey City University and many of the New Jersey Community Colleges. New Pathways to Teaching in New Jersey offers a statewide alternate route teacher preparation program designed to provide candidates with the skills and strategies necessary to become excellent, successful teachers. Candidates take NPTNJ coursework at local NJ Community Colleges either on campus or as a hybrid program. The program provides a process for individuals who already hold a bachelor’s degree (or higher) to become licensed teachers without having to complete a traditional teacher training program. The NPTNJ program is regulated and approved by the N.J. Department of Education (DOE).
The requirements are as follows:
- College transcripts indicating a Bachelor’s Degree
- The Praxis II test
- The Core Academic Skills test
- GPA 3.0

Certified Substitute Teacher
Camden County College’s Faculty Development Institute in cooperation with the school districts in Camden County offers a one-stop training seminar to prepare and certify substitute teachers as well as to offer a refresher in-service program
for substitute teachers currently employed by local school districts. Topics will include successful classroom management techniques, cultivating positive first impressions, rapport with students, articulating clear lesson goals, objectives and procedures, making efficient use of instructional time, etc. Students must have a minimum of 60 college credits and successfully undergo a criminal background check to qualify as a substitute teacher. All paperwork will be completed during
the seminar. A certificate of completion will be awarded at the end of the course.
